Deciding to seek help from a therapist can be complicated. Selecting the “right” therapist can be tricky. Often the decision to do so is made reluctantly, after many unsuccessful attempts at managing difficulty on one’s own. I hope the information I’ve provided will help you to determine if perhaps we might be a good fit. Whether we end up working together or whether you seek help elsewhere, best of luck on your journey towards well-being!

Availability: I typically see clients on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings.

Therapy that is person-centered, empirically based, and occasionally funny. Over the past 16 years, I have helped people navigate a wide range of challenges. My services are ideal for those struggling with depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship issues, career obstacles, grief and loss, life transitions, and the everyday demands of life. My approach draws on strategies and ideas from a variety of theoretical orientations, tailored to meet each person's unique needs.

In therapy, we explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that aren't working and identify more adaptive or functional responses to help you adjust to life's changes. Together, we try evidence-based approaches that research suggests can help you achieve your goals and find relief. For example, this might involve intentionally exposing yourself to a feared social situation to desensitize, build mastery, and overcome your fears.

I don't claim to have answers to life's many problems, nor do I presume to know what will make life better for you personally. Therapy isn't about giving advice or telling you what you "should" do. As Sigmund Freud famously said, "Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise"—this captures the essence of therapy. Sessions offer a private, confidential space for personal growth—a chance to be authentic, embrace the unknown, and make new choices.

While therapy often involves serious work, I also believe in the importance of not taking life too seriously. I have a longstanding interest in humor and its connection to well-being. My graduate dissertation was titled Humor in Relation to Anxiety, Depression, and Stress for College Students. I've been invited to present on the psychological benefits of humor and have served as an Ad Hoc editorial consultant for HUMOR: International Journal of Humor Research. I incorporate humor into my clinical work when appropriate.

Life has a way of crashing down on all of us at some point. Please note that my practice is currently limited to working with adults.
